55th National Awards(2007-2008) were announced today . The best actor and actress awards were won by Prakash Raj for Kanchivaram and Uma Shree for Girish Kasaravalli’s Kannada film Gulabi Talkies. Prakash Raj won the race over Sharukh khan(Chak de India) and Aamir khan(Tare zameen par).

Kanchivaram also won the best film award. The film had Prakash Raj and Shirya Reddy doing the main roles. The 1940’s based story stole the hearts of the jury. This national award is second one for prakash raj (First one for best supporting actor for Iddaru(Iruvar) film in tamil).

Uma shree was brilliant in the kannada film Gulabi Talkies and the film was the best work of Girish Kasaravalli till date.  This film won the best Indian film award and Umashri won the best actress award at the 10th Osian’s Cinefan Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema before.

Master filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan won the Best Director award for his masterpiece Malyalam film ‘Naalu Pennugal’. This is the seventh time he is recieving a National award.

The best child actor award went to Sharad Goyekar for his role in the Marathi film “Tingya”.

Feroze Abbas Khan’s film Gandhi My Father bagged three awards. The movie received accolades for Best Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor (Darshan Zariwala) and Special Jury mention. This film was produced by Bollywood superstar Anil Kapoor.

Bhavna Talwar’s directorial debut Dharm that explored religious undercurrents has won best film for national integration award.

Sharukh khan and Aamir khan had some smiles as Chake De India bagged the National award for the Best Wholesome Entertainment and Taare Zameen Par bagged the award for Family Welfare Film.

The song ‘Meri Maa’ from the movie ‘Taare Zameen Par’ won awards also for the Best Playback Singer (Shankar Mahadevan) and the Best Lyrics (Prasoon Joshi).

The jury headed by Sai Paranjpe considered 102 films and 106 non-feature films for the prestigious National Awards.
